Immediately stop repression: UPDF press conference urges

The UPDF held a press conference at its office in Kudukchari, Rangamati district to protest the widespread repression of its members and supporters. Mikel Chakma, a leader of the UPDF and Democratic Youth Forum, read a prepared text, describing the repressive policies of the government. He put forward a 5-point demand which included, among others, the cessation of military operation in Sajek. The press conference was also attended by Konika Dewan, General Secretary of Hill Women’s Federation, Juthika Chakma, President of HWF Naniachar unit and Apruchi Marma, General Secretary of Hill Students’ Council Khagrachari district unit.

UPDF rallies demand autonomous area for CHT

The United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) staged demonstrations and held rallies in Rangamati and Khagrachari districts, despite obstruction by army and police in various places including Manikchari, Matiranga, Laxmichari, Kaokhali and Naniachar. The party organized the CHT-wide programme to demand that the government declares CHT an autonomous region and recognize the ethnic nationalities in the constitution.

Khagrachari district Headmen and Karbari conference held

The Headmen and Karbaris (village chiefs) held a conference at PeracharaHigh School ground, with the slogan “Unite to demand constitutional recognition of the ethnic nationalities and autonomous region status for CHT”. Chaired by Swadesh Priti Chakma, Headman of Maischari Mouza, the conference was also addressed by Sachib Chakma, central committee member of UPDF, Ujjwal Smriti Chakma, coordinator of UPDF Khagrachari district unit, Ajit Baran Chakma, Bimbishar Khisha and Shanti Jiobn Chakma, among others. More than 250 delegates attended the conference.

UPDF submits demands to Constitution Amendment Committee

The Party demanded that the Special Committee on Constitution Amendment includes six amendment proposals put forward by UPDF. Signed by Prasit Khisha, president of UPDF, the memorandum of demands was handed over to Suranjit Sengupta, co-chair of the Committee, at his office at Parliament House by UPDF’s central committee members Ujjwal Smriti Chakma and Shanti Dev Chakma.

UPDF observes 12th founding anniversary

The UPDF observed its 12th founding anniversary across the CHT as well as Dhaka and Chittagong, with a solemn bow to strengthen the struggle for full autonomy. To mark the day, the party chalked out a series of programmes which included hoisting of the Party flag, discussion meetings, view exchange meetings, a boat rally in Naniachar and Children rally in Khagrachari.
