No open political programmes could be undertaken due to emergency rule imposed by the military-backed interim government of Fakruddin Ahmed, except that the Party had taken part in the 9th parliamentary elections at the fag end of his reign. However, the Party vigorously resisted land grabbing activities of the Bengali settlers during this period by adopting various techniques.
